Ignite Joy Through Creativity

“I am not creative.”

Generally speaking, most of us equate creativity with the ability to do something at an exemplary level.  We believe that creative people are just the folks that move or inspire us with art, music, or theatrical performances.  We think of them as being at the top of their field, or having the potential to be if only they were discovered.

The notion that being creative requires you to have a certain level of talent or a particular skillset, stifles expression before it even has the opportunity to emerge. This type of mindset causes a variety of roadblocks and an aversion to taking risks.

There may be a thing or two out there that sparks your interest, but you are reluctant to try it because you think “You aren’t good enough.”

Do you want to know how to get more out of your relationships? The quality of our relationships has a huge impact on our level of happiness. Learn how to build strong relationships that endure life's challenges and the test of time.

Get More Out of Your Personal Relationships

Quality relationships have a huge impact on our degree of happiness. Much of the joy we experience comes from the familiar and the unexpected encounters that we share with others. Unfortunately, some of us are a hot mess when it comes to love and relationships, both romantic and platonic.

Nurturing a healthy relationship requires a level of awareness and vulnerability that too many of us resist.  We also have a tendency to hold others to absurd and unrealistic expectations.  When in fact, we are all flawed human beings just trying to figure this thing out.  We struggle with saying the simple things, like “I love you” and “I am sorry” and are quick to deny when we fall short.

Relationships force us to see ourselves through the lens of another.   We get a front row seat to how our behavior is impacting someone and the quality of their lives.

Now, this is a two-way street, but you can only control and modify your behavior, then decide what you will accept from others.

You deserve to be happy. Happiness is a choice. Learn how to begin your journey towards joy with actionable steps you can take today.

Happiness is a Choice

Somewhere along the way, we adopted the notion that the pursuit of happiness is a lofty, unrealistic, selfish ideal.  Instead of being immersed in things that bring us joy or strategically surrounding ourselves with people who lead genuinely happy lives, we are passing the time with folks who are busily faking it.

To be fair, many of us don’t even own a personal definition of happiness or even know what truly brings us joy.  We are living lives that were designed for us, but not by us.

Sometimes you marry the guy that everyone else wants you to marry. Sometimes you pursue the job that everyone insists will provide a great income and the best bet for a stable future.

We also have a tendency to pursue things because they give us a sense of security and minimize our potential for fear that grows out of uncertainty. The person from a nice family, the job with a 401k, the position that will allow you to retire comfortably in the next 20-25 years are all things that we believe should make everyone happy.

There isn’t anything inherently wrong with these things or even wanting these things.  The problem occurs when these things aren’t your things and you spend all of your minutes chasing stuff you never wanted anyway.

We fall victim to the idea that there is only one way to do things, only one type of life that will bring you joy, and then we feel the pressure of conquering the checklist:

go to college

get a good job

get married

buy a house

have babies

go to lots of soccer practices

have dinner parties

We also might have a warped sense of what truly makes a person happy.  We look to others, observe, and think: I need what they have to be happy. Guess what? You came fully loaded with all the features and you are already equipped with everything you need.

You do not have to go outside of yourself to find joy.  Sure, you should absolutely use the universe and the people in it to inspire you.  Beautiful things, people, food, ideas, places, and art light us up from within. But, you have exactly what it takes to allow these things to enrich your life and fill it with joy.

Figure out how to build the life you actually want. Too often we are living lives created for us, but not by us. Learn how to begin the steps to designing a life you are excited to live.

Figure Out What You Want And Get It

Believe it or not YOU can have a life that is meaningful, fulfilling, and joyous.

Let’s be honest here, too many of us are spending time looking longingly through a window into someone else’s life.  You hear stories of people following their dreams, creating thriving businesses, chasing passion projects, traveling the world and wonder, “How do they do that?”  You convince yourself that their lives are the result of perfect timing, luck, fame, and trust funds, or all of the above.  You also assume that anyone claiming to have a life filled with unbreakable bonds, love, support, wealth, purpose, bottle service, and joy must be broadcasting through a filtered façade.

It’s sometimes hard to admit that people are actually crushing it because it leaves us with an incessant nagging caused by our own unquenched desires.  If we convince ourselves that the only reason “those people” have achieved is because of who they know or because they are stronger, smarter, more creative, more worthy, or more beautiful than us, than we don’t have to take any action or assume any accountability.

Why aren’t you living a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyous life?
